Our Promise To You

How We Test Products:

For beauty products, our reviewer will use the product for at least a week before writing about it. In many cases, they will use it for much longer than this before submitting their review. For instance, in the case of home hair removal products, out minimum time span is 6 months.

For household cleaners, our reviewer will use the product several times on a variety of surfaces (if appropriate) and conditions. Jenny, who reviews currently most of our household products has a stinky, excessively furry, 97 pound dog, along with a cat who likes to gulp her food down at warp speed and then regurgitate it all over the house. She also has a husband who enjoys hiking, biking, backpacking, and other outdoorsy things and then often forgets to remove his boots when he comes home. so her house is an awesome testing ground!

For pet products, James who reviews most of our pet related products, typically waits two weeks to a month of testing before he reviews them. And for the most part, he holds pet products to the same standards as products he would use on himself. His policy is, “if I wouldn’t wash my hair with it, I wouldn’t wash my dog with it either. If we were snowed in for a month and out of everything but dog food, I’d probably chow down.” James’ cat is a cancer survivor and handicapped, so he’s pretty overprotective.

If we deviate from the testing strategies we have laid out — ie. our reviewer only test a new facial cleanser for two days before he/she write about it — we’ll let you know in the review.

How We Get The Products We Test:

None of us here at OutTheBoxReviews work for the man. We are not a corporate entity and we don’t have any vested interest in any of the products we review.

For the most part, our reviewers purchase the products we review with money from their own pocket. Occasionally, companies will send us a product to try, and we love it when they do (who doesn’t love to get presents in the mail?), but we will never, ever give a product a good review just because it was gifted to us.
